Classic driveway and landscaping
Elegant driveway and forecourt with electric gates and landscaping has created a fabulous entry as well as extra security for this beautiful old property.
What the Client Wanted
What the client wanted was quite simple, a driveway and landscaped areas to enhance the look of their beautiful house.
Initial contact
We were initially contacted by a soft landscape and garden design company that we have worked with previously (the client’s neighbour). They sent over some plans that they had done for this client and initially the client wanted us to concentrate on the completely new driveway.
We had several meetings with the client to discuss many aspects of the plans. This enabled us to strike up a good relationship with the client, which we always value very highly. After bouncing some design ideas and recommendations from our years of experience, we commenced the project. Our client required a completely new driveway and a new entrance. They also wanted electric gates and piers, as well as paving and patio areas surrounding the house and garage.
With our 70 years of experience, project managing a project like this was second to none, working with and along side an electrician and gate installation company.
Where we Started
This is how the property looked before we got started. It had a lovely lawn area that we needed to enhance, whilst still maintaining it's natural beauty.
How Things Developed
As with many projects, we are always flexible, making changes and amendments along the way.
There were a few changes and amendments along the way. One of which was the change of material for the drive surface that had to be a permeable surface. This amendment required a discussion with the District Council, this was easily resolved.
We used Breedon Gravel for the drive. Soft and natural in appearance, Breedon self binding gravel complements both modern day and historical projects, so it was ideal for this beautiful house. It is 100% environmentally friendly, a natural limestone material. Once compacted, Breedon gravel knits together to form a solid base and a surface which self scarifies with use leaving a fine dressing of chippings.
We used Granite Setts for the edging of drive and entrance. The piers were sourced from local company Lambs Brick and stone and we chose to work with honey coloured Wealden Sussex Sandstone
Summary
Very pleased with the completed project. This is the sort of work that is ideal for R Exall & Sons.
