Stonework
We can provide all types of stonework for your outdoor space. You might want something simple, like raised flowerbeds or stone walls. Or you might want something more complex such as terracing your sloping garden. We can use natural stone to complete the look of your outdoor space.
One of the best things about using stone is that it weathers and grows more into the landscape over time, giving a really organic look that makes it look like your garden landscape has always been there.
Dry Stone Walls
This technique can give a really natural look to your outdoor space and if built correctly, is strong enough to last decades.
These walls are built differently to traditional brick walls. These natural-looking structures use no mortar to bind the stones together. Instead, the stones are stacked so that they actually fit together. You might think that this method is not as stable as traditional walls. But by using a durable type of stone, these walls will be able to last for years, even decades.
You need plenty of experience to build these walls and making sure that all the stone fits together is a job for an experienced landscaper. Thankfully, with over 65 years of experience, we have no problem building dry-stone walls.
Decorative & Retaining Stone Walls
These stone walls can be used to level or terrace your sloping garden and increase the space in your outdoor area.
Decorative stone walls are useful to split up the different areas in your outdoor space. Using stone rather than brick ensures these walls look more natural and appealing to the eye. They can also provide your outdoor space with plenty of character.
Retaining stone walls can be built to make more useable space out of a sloped garden. Terracing, also known as levelling, means splitting up the slope into flat surfaces. This is always a popular way of landscaping a garden with a heavy slope, as it creates many more usable areas, still giving you some flat areas to make use of.
Retaining stone walls require professionals like R Exall & Sons to make sure they are strong and stable. With the relevant groundworks to ensure they are able to last for a long time. If you need to level your outdoor space, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.

Our client required a completely new driveway and a new entrance. They also wanted electric gates and piers, as well as paving and patio areas surrounding the house and garage.
Elegant driveway and forecourt with electric gates and landscaping has created a fabulous entry as well as extra security for this beautiful old property.
We are delighted to say that once again you exceeded our expectations; we are very pleased as you know with the work that you did for us in our back garden and now we have a wonderful drive on which to park all our cars in front of the house.
Thank you for working so hard and conscientiously again to add the finishing touch to our vastly extended home. The block paved drive and your beautiful stone finish wall and steps have totally transformed the look of our property.
